The worst case would be stop, lift bonnet, spin fan on by hand, smack with fan-spanner, shut bonnet, two-finger the guy behind who was tooting, and drive on. But when the car is cruising along through the air, the blast of air comes through the radiator at some speed and thus takes the load OFF the fan anyway, and in effect even if the viscous There are three possible problems:-. 1) The mainshaft spline has worn away and is not engaging in the transfer case input gear, (most common) 2) the centre has torn out the clutch friction plate or 3) the mainshaft has sheared just inside the rear of the gearbox. 1) 3) will require a rebuilt unit. Have got a 1999 td5 defender and have owned it since April or so. Problem is, when start engine from cold, temp guage goes to halfway and then drops off to zero after 5 mins of driving. Heater blows nice and hot, pulls very well no problems whatsoever except the guage not responding. Changed the sensor twice, (new one from eBay, didn't fix With the ECU still weeks away and evidence that the problem could be laying somewhere else (although ECU was still 'topsiding' under heavy load and continuity was re-checked good between ECU and each injector… in static conditions), resolved to try out a different approach A beginner's buyers Guide for a Land Rover TD5 DiscoveryDiscovery 2 EGR Delete Kit (affiliate link): http://ebay.us/7I84h2TikTok: Hi all, We have had issues with the ignition key not turning in the lock of our 2002 discovery TD5 and I have been all through the various Discovery forums looking for answers. I found various bits and pieces there but never found the full story although the fault is unbelievably common. So here is my version and the solution to it. xs1P. I bought a brand-new Discovery TD5 in July 2002. We need a 4WD as we live up a rough track a mile long, and get snowed in during the winter if we are not careful--no fun after the first three days. Since we bought this Discovery, it has been plagued with silly little niggling problems: the Beginning to look into the hesitation - one very common problem the TD5's suffer with is oil in the injector loom which seeps down to the ECU plug. The seal where the loom runs into the head can (and will) let oil past which manages to find its way down to where it terminates at the ECU. The ABS Pump failure is a common issue found in the Land Rover Discovery II. When this failure occurs, the ABS and Hill Descent & Traction Control lights will remain illuminated. This issue is commonly referred to as the "Three Amigos" problem in the Land Rover Discovery community. If I purchase this will it cure my fault? Discovery 2 Td5 Wastegate Modulator testing. As can been seen from the video the WGM is directing pressure to the capped port 3 when it's not receiving a PWM signal. When PWM is active the pressure in the capped waste gate actuator outlet is released via port 2. TD5s are sensitive to overheating so make sure the cooling system is tip top. Regular oil changes every 5k miles will keep the TD5 engine running like a sewing machine. Other than that they are a good strong engine with oodles of potential in terms of tuning.
